上海海事大学是一所以航运、物流、海洋为特色，具有工学、管理学、经济学、法学、文学、理学和艺术学等学科门类的多科性应用研究型大学。学校前身为1909年创办的晚清邮传部上海高等实业学堂船政科，开创了中国高等航海教育的先河。2004年经教育部批准更名为上海海事大学。学校致力于培养国家航运业所需的各类专门人才，被誉为“高级航运人才的摇篮”。学校现有学生2.6万余人，并拥有4.8万吨散货教学实习船“育明”轮。目前，学校正努力建设世界一流海事大学，为航运中心建设和国家航运事业提供重要支撑。

Shanghai Maritime University (SMU) is a multidisciplinary institution covering engineering, management, economics, law, liberal arts, and science, with a distinct focus on shipping, logistics, and marine studies. Tracing its roots back to the Shipping Section of the Shanghai Industrial College founded in 1909, SMU represents the birthplace of Chinese maritime education. Formally established by the Ministry of Communications in 1959, the university adopted its current name in 2004. Renowned as the "Cradle of Senior Shipping Professionals," SMU has made significant contributions to China’s maritime industry. With a student body of over 26,000 and state-of-the-art research facilities—including the ocean-going training vessel "Yuming"—SMU is dedicated to becoming a world-class maritime university.
